Some time ago, we wrote that birds die EN masse in the United States: sometimes the roads are literally littered with corpses. According to Experts from the University of new Mexico, the cause of death was "cold explosions".
On August 20, the Americans noticed a huge number of dead birds at the white Sands training ground, as well as in the white Sands national Park. Experts at first decided that these were isolated cases, but, as it turned out, similar people were observed in other regions. Local residents also noted the strange behavior of birds: birds chased insects on the ground, although they usually ran through trees and sat on bushes.
Scientists collected 305 bird carcasses and took them to the Southwest biology Museum at the University of new Mexico in Albuquerque for analysis. In all cases, atrophy of the chest muscles and complete absence of fat were registered. This suggests that all the birds were dehydrated and hungry.
The scientists ' conclusions state that due to the cold front that came to the Western United States, there was a significant reduction in insects. As a result, there was almost no food left for the birds, and the birds were forced to starve. Cold weather also caused hypothermia of birds.
The population of purple-green swallows suffered the most. As the scientists noted, they had never seen anything like this before. It is very sad to see thousands of birds die, not just hundreds. Unfortunately, there is no way to help the birds in any way: the weather is not under human control. We can only hope that the situation will return to normal in the near future.
