"Round dance" of deer at Lovozer

Murmansk photojournalist Lev Fedoseev was lucky enough to capture on video a unique sight from the life of reindeer near the legendary Lovozer. Fedoseyev shot a video using a drone when reindeer farms in the Arctic region were vaccinating animals.

In the video, you can see how a huge rotating circle with a pronounced "epicenter"is slowly formed from a herd of adult male deer.

This behavior of animals has long been known to scientists. Due to the round shape of the herd and the corresponding movement, deer protect their weakest counterparts (usually cubs and females) from the attack of predatory animals.

Zoologists remind us that this technique is used not only by deer, but also by a number of other ungulates, for example, bison and bison.

Interestingly, the main weapon of deer in defense against predators is not even horns, as it seems at first glance, but powerful legs with large heavy hooves. Using them, deer often quite effectively discourage wolves. Antlers are more often used by deer in the fight with their tribesmen for a female, and then in the first days of winter they throw them off.
