In the area of the village of Myshako near Novorossiysk, the water in the Black sea turned red. Despite the fact that the change in the color of the water occurred in early October, this became known only in recent days, when experts identified the cause by conducting a study.
As explained by the head of Novorossiysk Igor Dyachenko, scientists took water samples-it turned out that the shades of red appeared as a result of reproduction of microphytes — microscopic algae. During the flowering of algae, the current carries to the black sea coast. Scientists note that there is nothing to worry about — these algae are not toxic and do not harm the environment.
Earlier, social networks showed pictures of the coast near the city — the water turned red and even colored the sand.
Water blooming is called the development of phytoplankton, which entails a change in the hue of water. This is accompanied by rapid growth of algae, both in the marine and fresh environments. As a rule, one or more species of phytoplankton participate in flowering. The color is caused by a high content of pigmented cells and can be green, yellow, brown or red — it depends on the type of algae.
