Mysterious spheres similar to ancient cricket balls with mysterious lines have been discovered in the depths of South Africa, in pyrophyllite deposits, which provoked the appearance of various fantastic assumptions. IFLScience writes about this.
In the 1980s, during the heyday of conspiracy theories, the spheres were of particular interest. It was assumed that they could be the creation of higher civilizations or even aliens. The curator of the museum where these mysterious artifacts were kept claimed that the spheres rotated by themselves.
However, in 2006, geologist Bruce Cairncross clarified this mystery. He offered a rational explanation for the origin of the spheres found in the geological formation of the Dominion group. The spheres turned out to be nodules - objects created during the deposition of minerals from an aqueous solution in the rock. This process led to the formation of spherical or elliptical objects that we observe today.
The lines visible on the spheres are formed by traces of the host rock, layers of which were formed over time, creating a unique layering effect. The very fact that the sphere could "rotate by itself" was explained by the curator of the museum as a natural consequence of underground activity in the region.
Thus, the mystery of the Klerksdorp spheres has received its scientific explanation. They are not ancient artifacts or traces of alien civilizations, but are an amazing natural phenomenon associated with geological processes.
