A large inflatable figure of the Loch Ness monster (approximately 4 m high, 8 m long and 3 meters wide) was "arrested" by police officers because it was going to be used for protests during the climate summit in Glasgow.
"Nessie" wanted to involve the participants of the anti-poverty group Jubilee Debt Campaign. The organization opposes the growing threat of the climate debt burden for low-income countries.
Eva Watkinson, campaign manager at Jubilee Debt Campaign, stated:
"The debt crisis faced by low-income countries was excluded from the discussion at the summit, and now the police do not allow us to draw attention to this fundamental problem. The debt of low-income countries does not allow them to fight the climate crisis. And when disasters strike, countries are forced to increase their debts in order to pay for reconstruction. Rich polluting countries have created the climate crisis and must take responsibility by writing off the debts of countries that need it."
Chris Sinclair of the Caribbean Center for Policy Studies added that developed countries should take moral responsibility for immediate action to stop the impending catastrophe.
