Bright northern lights of green, pink and purple colors were observed in the south, in Kent and Cornwall.
This natural light phenomenon, also known as aurora, is usually observed in high-latitude areas of the Arctic and Antarctic.
It is formed as a result of a solar flare, which emits electrically charged particles colliding with gas molecules in the upper layers of the Earth's atmosphere.
As a result of this interaction, green and red waves of light appear over our poles, so in the UK, the northern lights can often be seen only in Scotland and some areas of northern England.
However, in rare cases, this phenomenon has been observed in the south of England, and it is expected that it will be seen again in some parts of the UK tonight.
