The annual meteor shower Quadrantids peaked on Saturday morning — January 4, around 5:00 UT, said the observers from the International meteor organization (International Meteor Organization — IMO).
According to forecasts, the meteor shower was supposed to peak three hours later. Earlier-than-expected surge in activity has allowed many Europeans to see the celestial show. Konstantin Emmanouilidis captured dozens of meteors before sunrise in Rodolivos, Greece.
"The street was clear and dry weather, and it motivated me to go out in -3 °C and to take some pictures of the night sky. As it turned out, not in vain. According to my calculations, anti-aircraft hour number (eng. zenithal hourly rate, ZHR) during the peak was 125 meteors per hour," — said Emmanouilidis.
Currently, the Land is removed from the zone fragments of the parent asteroid quadrantid — 2003 EH1. The activity of the first meteor shower of 2020 in the coming days to dramatically go down.
