Jan 10, 2018 Jan Curtis of Cheyenne (Wyoming, USA) saw in the East a bright orange light source. Oddly enough, it wasn't the Sun. "The sun didn't rise another 9 minutes" — says the author of this colorful pictures.
"This atmospheric optical effect caused by reflection of sunlight in ice crystals in the clouds," writes Curtis.
On this winter morning in Cheyenne lamellar ice crystals of Cirrus clouds caught the rays of the rising Sun and reflected light vertically. This phenomenon is called light or sun pillar.
