An unusual phenomenon was observed in the sky over the island of Okinawa in Japan. Two objects similar to falling meteorites were noticed by local residents, the TBS TV channel reports. Scientists admitted the possibility of artificial origin of objects.
Eyewitnesses describe the objects as slowly moving, resembling fireballs. But unlike meteorites, there was a long plume behind them, which is unusual for falling cosmic bodies. Associate professor of Hyogo University, Toshihito Ishida, stressed that meteorites usually fall quickly, and the plume behind them is short. This indicates that the fixed objects may have an artificial origin.
The scientist suggests that the observed object could be an artificial satellite descending from orbit or consist of several parts of the apparatus. Such a phenomenon may be interesting for space agencies, as it may indicate the development of technologies and progress in space exploration.
"Based on publicly available information, we believe that these objects are not traces of falling meteorites, but are rocket fragments," an employee of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan told the Japan Times.
The expert suggested that it could be a rocket launched by China in November. He also stated that the wreckage probably fell into the ocean and does not pose a danger.
