JACKSON, Tenn. — A viewer contacted WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News about seeing something unusual in the sky.
“I pulled my car over and I took a picture of it,” Gloria Cole said. “It was just hanging in the air, and it had a black streak in the middle.”
She says she’s never seen anything like this before.
“I think it was a UFO,” Cole said. “I don’t believe in them, but I know I saw something that was different.”
We went to WBBJ Storm Team Weather meteorologist Moe Shamell and asked him what he thought it could be.
“A couple things were going on at the time,” Moe said. “A couple things it could be, what we call a lightning sprite, because there were thunderstorms just off to the north of Jackson. Lightning strikes the ground, and there’s a sprite that goes up into space, but usually those are relatively brief. Now it could also be an airplane that was just taking off and it’s leaving a bit of a trail behind it, a contrail behind it. That’s another thing it could look like.”
Cole said she told her aunt about it last night, and her aunt told her there are things out there we don’t understand.
“I asked other people if they had seen anything, and the ones that I did ask, they hadn’t seen anything,” Cole said.
Cole says there are some things that just can’t be explained. “There are different things happening in the world now that we cannot even comment on,” she said. “We don’t know why they’re happening.”
