Toroidal vortex (also vortex ring) is a phenomenon in which the region of rotating fluid moving through the same or a different area of a fluid when the flow pattern takes the shape of a toroid (donut).
Axisymmetric air movement around the imaginary surface of a torus as the result of a complex combination of zonal and meridional movements. In the formation of vortex rings play the role of the forces of viscous friction. Often such rings are formed in natural conditions (for example, near the crater of the volcano), but can be created artificially with the help of a special installation.
Under water they can also be formed. For example, they form the dolphins and whales.
