Hundreds of millions of kilograms of Saharan dust spread across Europe last week. The clouded orange sky resembled the apocalypse, and on the night of March 18, the full Moon rose, colored red.
The picture from Spain from March 15 shows a man standing on a mountain with a fluttering cloak, who looks at the city of Elda shrouded in mist, as if it is another world.
The movement of dust from the African desert to Europe occurs every year, but this event is called the largest in the history of observations. The atmospheric jet stream associated with the storm system "Celia" brought a massive dust plume to the Iberian Peninsula. The most significant impact occurred in Spain and Portugal, where the concentration of particulate matter in the air reached a critical level. Dust covered not only city streets, but also ski slopes and glaciers, which accelerated their seasonal melting.
The photo was taken in Poland, near the town of Shubin.
