The skunk Ape is a cryptid ape—like creature that, according to cryptozoologists, inhabits forests and swamps in the southeastern United States.

Most leading scientists have historically ignored the existence of the skunk monkey, considering it the result of a combination of folklore, mistaken identity and a practical joke, and not a real animal. The creature has infiltrated the popular culture of the southern United States, especially in Florida.

It is usually described as a bipedal ape–like creature, approximately 1.5-2.1 m (5-7 ft) tall, covered with spotted reddish-brown fur. It is often reported that the Skunk monkey is smaller in stature compared to traditional descriptions of bigfoot from the northern United States and Canada. It is named after its unpleasant smell, often described as similar to the smell of a skunk.

The skunk monkey has been recorded as appearing in Florida folklore, Georgia and Alabama since European settlers first occupied the region.

In 1818, local newspapers reported a story from what is now Apalachicola, Florida, which spoke of a "monkey the size of a man" raiding grocery stores and chasing fishermen along the shore.

Seminole and Mikkosuki culture includes stories about a fetid, physically strong and secretive creature named Esti Kapkaki, a name that roughly translates as "Fluffy tall man" or "Hairy Giant".
