In the near future, the inhabitants of the Earth will be able to see the largest comet in the history of observations. A large space object 2014 UN271, unlike other registered comets, will fly through the inner part of the Solar system in 2031, AccuWeather reports.
This object can get into the book of records, becoming a "mega-comet", the largest ever discovered.
According to the information EarthSky, the width of the comet will be from 96 to 370 km, Halley's comet has a diameter of about 5.6 km. The giant celestial body was given a euphonious name: comet Bernardinelli-Bernstein.
The asteroid, which is considered the cause of the extinction of the dinosaurs, was estimated to be about 11 km wide, it hit the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula, creating a crater 200 km wide. NASA experts believe that the probability of such a scenario in 2031 is 0 %.
Right now, Comet Bernardinelli-Bernstein is closer to the Sun than Neptune. Comets are completely unpredictable in their brightness. Because of its size, this comet can exceed the wildest expectations and make a real light show.
