"Blizzard" of butterflies in Tver region

On the night of August 10 in the city of Torzhok in the Tver region went "snowfall", but not real, and from butterflies.

It should be noted that the pods (Ephemeroptera) is a separate and ancient detachment of winged insects, numbering more than 3000 species. All of them, as a rule, live only one day, so the squad got its name.

Observers noted that most of the pods are over bridges and rivers. Many people saw such a spectacle for the first time.

Mass departure of these insects (swarming) occurs in July - August, at this time mating. After it, the males die, and the females first lay their eggs in the water, and then also die. The development of larvae of the beds always takes place in the water - in rivers and streams.

Due to the fact that most of the pods die in the rivers, the fish has a huge amount of food - fishermen note that the biting stops for several days.

This time the swarm took place right over the river Twertsa.
