The guards from the Finnish sparsely populated province of Lapland has published in social network Twitter a photo of an unusual phenomenon. Over the frozen lake Inari suddenly appeared a mysterious "structure", similar to the long stretch of land of volcanic origin. Needless to say that no volcanic Islands here, so the witnesses very surprised after making this discovery. The Finns tried to approach her, however, the "island" began to dissolve in the air.
Then the guards realised that witnessed the emergence of Fata Morgana – a complex and rare optical phenomenon that consists of several layers of mirages in the atmosphere. The surface of the earth close to the horizon, the sky reflected in the "layer cake", which creates the illusion of a monochrome long structure above the horizon. Reflective "mirror" are the tiny ice crystals in the air. According to the authors of the amazing frame, the air temperature at the time was minus 25 degrees Celsius, so the hypothesis of a Fata Morgana is definitely not devoid of logic. In summer, the spectacle is unlikely to see.
A striking phenomenon is captured by the Finnish border guards, reminiscent of the mystical towns and Islands of the Northern legends and fairy tales. In the folklore of many peoples living in cold regions, there are stories about so-called "lost worlds" emerging as if from nowhere and disappearing if you try to approach them. Perhaps a Mirage, like what was observed this past Sunday on lake Inarijärvi is a good explanation for such fabulous stories.
