We tend to imagine aliens as fantastic creatures with unusual appearance. However, the inhabitants of other worlds can be much more like us than is commonly believed.
Scientists from Oxford University came to this conclusion using the theory of evolution as applied to the alien life forms.
As suggested by the authors, for the development of life in the Universe answer the same processes as on Earth. Events occurring in the environment, forcing any known form of life to evolve and adapt. Thus, theoretical and empirical methods of research have confirmed the need for extreme environmental conditions for the implementation of key evolutionary transitions (the most striking and significant of these is the development of multicellular organisms from single-celled). Since natural disasters can occur on any planets, the simplest organisms may require the same as organisms on Earth protection from radiation, movement, nutrition, excretion and so on.
Thus, if evolution on other planets proceeds by the same law, alien species should be similar in many ways to us.
"We can't tell whether the aliens walk on two legs, whether they are green-eyed, but we believe that the theory of evolution provides us with an excellent tool in order to imagine what living organisms are similar in General," said Sam Levin, one of the authors of the study. "Without natural selection, life will not be able to sustainability".
