A rumor of a rain of gold coins caused a stir in the vicinity of the Indian city of Bangalore, Karnataka. Footage taken by an eyewitness was published by the Newsflare website.

A crowd of treasure hunters gathered on the street blocked the roadway. Some looked for gold on the roadside, others started digging in the hope of finding it underground. Several people actually found tiny coins made of a metal resembling gold. The findings were sent for analysis.

Police officers who tried to contain the crowd said that the coins found did not fall from the sky and are most likely fake. There are gangs of counterfeiters in the area who could have thrown some of their goods near the road.

The source of the rumors could be local television reports about the rain of gold, which allegedly took place in the Indian city of Surat, Gujarat.
