A strange purple cloud in Chile scared the locals

Locals in Chile were amazed by a long "sparkling" purple cloud seen over their homes.


The cloud hung low over the city of Pozo Almonte in northern Chile. It is not specified how long the cloud hung over the city, but it is reported that the authorities are currently investigating this mysterious phenomenon, about which no official statement has yet been made.


Among the theories, the main one is considered to be a pump failure at a local mining enterprise, namely the leakage of iodine vapor from the Kala-Kala mine.

"We are conducting an inspection that tells us that this incident is most likely related to the failure of the impeller pump engine," said Cristian Ibanez, deputy head of the Chilean Tarapaca region.

Nature conservationist Emanuel Ibarra added that due to a pump malfunction, iodine at the plant turned from a solid into a gas, which caused a fluorescent glow over the heads of local residents.

"We are in contact with the Environmental Protection Agency to assess tomorrow the possibility of filing a complaint about non-compliance with the rules and obligations assumed by the company in matters of environmental protection," said Daniel Quinteros, representative of the Tarapaka region.

He also hastened to assure the public that the cloud does not pose a danger to human health.:

"So far there have been no medical consultations or complaints regarding the situation we are facing."

Meanwhile, local residents began to panic, especially after firefighters arrived at the plant.


They were reassured and told that security teams and experts would be on site for 48 hours assessing the situation. They were also assured that the cloud would dissipate soon.
