On the morning of September 28, residents of Britain looked at the sky and were surprised to find that the Sun had acquired a blue hue.

On the X platform (formerly Twitter), users shared amazing pictures of this phenomenon and expressed their impressions. Several confused people began to wonder about the nature of this incident.

To explain this mysterious change in the color of the Sun, experts turned to the Deputy chief forecaster of the Meteorological Department, Dan Harris. He explained that there is smoke in the air over Britain, which came from Canada, where wildfires are raging.

When smoke mixes with high clouds in the atmosphere, it begins to scatter sunlight and create unusual color effects. The more smoke there is in the atmosphere, the stronger the scattering of light and the stronger the blueness of the Sun. According to meteorologist Chris Page, the smoke from a forest fire hit Northern Britain as a result of Storm Agnes, which brought smoke particles.

NASA experts have explained why the Sun has acquired a blue hue. According to the agency, visible colors have different wavelengths. Violet light has the shortest wavelength of about 380 nanometers, while red light has the longest wavelength of about 700 nanometers. Sunlight, heading towards the Earth, is scattered through particles in the air, such as dust and smoke. And the shorter the wavelength, the stronger the scattering.

Now the air contains smoke from forest fires that broke out in Canada. The combination of smoke and high clouds in the atmosphere affects the scattering of sunlight, creating an unusual palette in the sky.

This isn't the first time the Sun has suddenly changed its color. In 1950, residents of the province of Ontario (Canada) faced a similar phenomenon due to the Chinchaga firestorm, which is considered one of the largest forest fires in the history of North America.
