Telescopic the picture, filmed in about 40 kilometers West of the Spanish capital, captured a full Moon rising over the skyscrapers on the horizon. This is the first full moon after the beginning of spring in the Northern hemisphere, almost entirely coinciding with the lunar perigee and the March equinox.
The moon looks wavy and slightly distorted, like a reflection in water. The observed optical effect is formed by the refraction of light passing through the layered atmosphere. Pronounced atmospheric refraction also creates the illusion fragments, which can be noticed just above the lunar disk. Optical Mirage is associated with more common green flash of the setting Sun.
The last full moon was March 21 and the next will be April 19. The spring equinox in the Northern hemisphere in 2019 fell on 20/21 March.
