Smoke from the devastating wildfires that swept across the West coast of the United States last week has now reportedly spread across the country, appearing as a haze and giving the sun the appearance of an ominous scarlet patch.
The national weather service confirmed that the unusual sight is indeed caused by smoke spreading thousands of kilometers across the country.
The haze and strange-looking sun are a stark reminder that the impact of an environmental crisis can spread rapidly from one part of the world to another.
Fortunately, according to local weather organization New York Metro Weather, the smoke is already tens of thousands of feet high, meaning it is unlikely to affect air quality at ground level.
