John Avis (29 years old), his wife Elaine (25 years old) and the three children were driving home to Aveley, heading south on Hackton Lane and Aveley Road, when they saw an oval pale blue light to their left. This light moved with them and soon crossed the road in front of them, about 500 yards (450 m) away.
After about a mile, they suddenly came across a strip of thick green fog covering the entire road, 8-9 feet (2.4-2.7 m) high.
At that moment, the radio in the car crackled and smoked, and John pulled out the wires. The car's headlights went out and they entered the fog. In the fog, “it was very light” and they were very cold. At the same time, there was a dead silence.
After a second or two, it seemed to me, something jerked, and the fog cleared. The car was already half a mile down the road. Elaine only realized this after they had driven another half mile.
One of the children was still awake, and the other two were still asleep. When they got home, they found that the time was not around 22:00, as it should have been, but around 01:00.
After that, many strange events happened in the family, including a nervous breakdown before Christmas, which forced John to quit his job, in addition, John, Elaine and two children stopped eating meat, and John and Elaine stopped drinking alcohol. John, an avid smoker, has completely quit smoking.
There were cases of objects disappearing in the house, loud buzzing noise, often heard after midnight, and clicking sounds heard in the living room and bedroom, with other phenomena: the phone acted in a peculiar way, etc.
One day, one of the children claimed to have seen a “man” standing by his bed, dressed "like a clown."
John saw a UFO on the highway in 1968, because of which the headlights and engines of several cars failed, which led to a collision. In addition, shortly before or immediately after the incident with the green fog, he saw a large cylindrical silver object in daylight.
John had "strange dreams" from which he remembered being operated on "something like dwarves".
Elaine remembered a dream in which she was lying on the operating table, and a small man in a white coat was standing next to her. Later, Elaine remembered John, herself, and one of the children standing by the car in a large room with curved walls. Men in gray one-piece suits were walking around the cars. In another room, where there was an operating table, there was a "little ugly man."
Later, when John was under hypnosis, he remembered that when the car entered the fog, he found himself in a large room where tall "peaceful" creatures in one-piece colorless suits told him not to worry about the children. They had pink eyes and communicated telepathically.
They put him on the table and ran a "honeycomb" bar, similar to a tool, 10" by 30" over his body. He asked where they came from. They showed him “a map, but not a map,” and gave him an explanation from which he could only remember “Phobos.”
"We travel," they told him, "almost instantly.” And they explained to him how it was done, but he did not understand.
There was a small creature covered with fur and making chirping sounds and it served the tall creatures.
During the second hypnotic session, John remembered that when the car entered the fog, a white beam cut through it and lifted the car. The next thing he remembered was that they were in a very large room.
Here he was examined by an "examiner", "smaller than us", with big eyes and a mouth "not like ours". The tall creatures had no visible mouths. Their propulsion system used a magnetic “vortex".
He had encountered only three of these creatures, and only one had communicated with him.
When asked about the reason for the creature's visit to Earth, he replied: "No visit, they are always here."
When asked where they came from, he replied: “they didn't need to be told,” and that they didn't need to go home. "they have more than one base," he said.
After he was brought out of hypnosis, he said that at that moment he felt deprived of the opportunity to say anything else.

In the mist “it was very light,” and they felt very cold; there was a dead silence. After what seemed like a second or two, there was a jolt, and the mist was gone; the car was now half a mile further along the road. Elaine’s first impressions were not until it had traveled another half mile.
