Initial data
Barney and Betty Hill were an American couple who claimed they were abducted by aliens in a rural part of the state New Hampshire between September 19 and 20, 1961. It was the first alien abduction story to be widely distributed in the United States.
Barney and Betty Hill were on their way home from a vacation in Canada and northern New York. During the long drive to her home in New Hampshire, Betty Hill noticed a bright light in the sky that seemed to follow them. Barney assumed it was just a bright star, a satellite, or maybe a plane heading for Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, New York. Seeing that the object makes strange maneuvers in the sky (acceleration and deceleration, movement up and down), the couple thought of a UFO and decided to stop and look at the object through binoculars.
Getting out of the car, Barney pulled out the gun he kept in case he encountered the wild animals that were common in the area. He assumed they were being followed by an ordinary plane, so he got back in the car and tried to convince his wife, Betty, that nothing special had happened. She did not believe him, because not so long ago, her sister told her a story about how in such a situation she saw a real UFO.
They continued down the road, Betty keeping a close eye on the object in the sky. Later, she informed her husband that the glowing dot was moving up and down, approaching the car, and then retreating. Then, suddenly, the UFO accelerated, passed the Hill couple's car, and landed right in front of it. The object hovered in the air at a height of about 20 feet, forcing them to stop. Barney grabbed his gun and binoculars and got out of the car to get a closer look at this strange UFO. He went to the object and saw a window in it, and behind it-a large group of creatures. Barney ran to the car, fearing for his wife's life and safety.
As he drove away and quickly picked up speed, Barney asked Betty to keep an eye on the object and report its movements. Suddenly, the couple heard a sound that they said sounded like a microwave oven, and the car began to vibrate violently.
The Hills woke up two hours later, thirty miles from where Barney had stopped the car. Although the couple did not stay anywhere on the road, and the two short stops took only a few minutes, they arrived two hours late. When they got home, they both felt a little strange and couldn't remember the events that followed the beep. Barney noticed that the strap of his binoculars was torn, and Betty's dress was torn and covered with some pinkish powder.
The Hills reported the incident to the Air Force base, but were told that they most likely saw the planet Jupiter, which was particularly bright that evening. A day later, a man from the base contacted them and asked them to describe the situation in more detail. Later, Professor Jacques Vallee will find in the archive of the Strategic Bomber Aviation regiment an official document dating from 1961 (No. 100-1-61), which refers to the observation of a UFO by the operator of the 0214 radar: On the night of September 20, the radar station attendant spotted and briefly escorted an unidentified flying object.
After this incident, Betty began having nightmares, and she and her husband decided to visit a hypnotist. During the hypnosis, Betty remembered talking to the aliens about what was going on, and what they were saying to her.
"We're just going to do some basic tests," the aliens said.
Betty reported that the aliens checked her eyes, ears, and nose like regular doctors, took skin and nail samples, checked her heart, and used a large machine to perform internal organ tests.
For six months, beginning in January 1964, the Hill couple were under the supervision of Dr. Simon, and their strange story gradually became clear. There are 45 hours of audio recordings of the couple's stories about what happened on board the UFO. Under hypnosis, Barney Hill also recalled that he was taken aboard a spaceship, where aliens with huge eyes subjected the earthman to a kind of medical examination. Barney and Betty Hill's accounts of that night were exactly the same.
Later, a relative of the Hills, British Kathleen Morden, told about the abduction of relatives by aliens in 1961 on the air of the English show "This Morning".
According to Kathleen, her aunt and uncle, Betty and Barney Hill, were extremely skeptical about UFO stories before meeting the aliens. And in 1961, the Hills, passing through Hampshire, had to stop to use binoculars to see a flying ship that hovered 30 meters above them. It took a long time to observe a UFO (large, the size of a dinner plate at a distance of a meter). Dozens of people were watching the ship with the Hills. Barney Hill saw plates of creatures dressed in shiny suits in the windows. Then a red ray appeared, and the British woman's uncle realized that he had to leave immediately. He ran to the car, shouting, but then something thundered. Waking up after the sound, the Hills realized that they did not remember what had happened to them for the last 2 hours. Betty Hill's torn dress, when the woman touched it, gave off pink pollen.
Ufologists believe that the couple was abducted and subjected to a series of experiments by representatives of unearthly civilizations.

This story even got into the press of the USSR. Article from the newspaper "Soviet Youth" (Riga) for January 20, 1968:
Original news
This amazing real Alien abduction story started on the evening of the September 19th through the morning of the 20th when Barney and Betty Hill were driving home down Route 3 coming home from vacation in Canada and northern New York.
While driving the long way back to their home in New Hampshire Betty Hill noticed a bright light in the sky that seemed to be following at a distance behind them. Barney figured it was simply a bright star, satellite, or perhaps an aircraft heading to the Pease Air Force base in Portsmouth, NH. After noticing the object doing strange maneuvers in the sky such as speeding up slowing down and going up and down they started getting a little curious about this Unidentified Flying Object and decided to stop, walk the dog and get a closer look at the object through their binoculars.
While getting out of the car Barney decided to grab his pistol out of the trunk in case of large animals that regularly live in the area. After walking the dog and convincing himself it was just a normal aircraft, he got back in their car and tried to convince his wife Betty that it was nothing special, but she was skeptical since her sister had just told her of a similar story where she saw a real UFO.
They continued to drive down the road while Betty kept a close eye on the object in the sky. She later reported watching it move up and down and get fairly close to their vehicle and then backing off when it was just getting into site. Then, suddenly the UFO sped up and descended directly in front of the car hovering around 20 feet in the air making them stop. Barney directed Betty to stay in the car as he grabbed his pistol and binoculars and jumped out of the car to have closer look at this strange UFO. He ran over to the object and could see a group of human like alien beings through a large window in the front of the ship. Fear then rightly struck Barney and he ran back to the vehicle afraid for his and his wifes life.
Rapidly driving off he asked his wife to keep an eye on the craft and to keep him updated on its position. Then, suddenly Barney and Betty Hill heard a beeping sound that they said sounded like a microwave and the car began to vibrate rapidly and stall.
After getting home, they both felt a little strange and couldnt really remember the events that followed after the beeping sound. Barney noticed that the strap from the binoculars was torn and Bettys dress had been ripped and was covered in some kind of a pinkish powder. Thinking the worst had happened they called the Pease Air Force Base to report the incident, but was told they must have just seen the planet Jupiter since it was bright in the sky that evening and left it at that. Days later the man from the Air Force Base contacted them back and for some reason did a detailed interview with them amazed by the fact that they had been abducted, seen an Alien Craft and contacted real aliens.
Betty had begun having horrible nightmares of probing and being forcibly handled. These dreams had started to affect her life so she decided to see a hypnotist with her husband to see what they could uncover. During the separate hypnosis Betty remembered talking to the Aliens about what was going on and them responding in a calm and scientific manner. We're just going to do some basic tests said the aliens. She then reported them testing her eyes, ears and nose much like a normal physical then they took some samples of her skin and nails and inspected her heart and used some large machine to do other internal tests according to what the aliens said. Betty had also apparently made up nick names for the aliens as well calling the doctor the examiner and the person in charge the leader. She had asked where they were from and they showed her a map of the star system and also asked if she could take home a souvenir which they said yes and then changed their mind and took back the book they were going to give her.
Hypotheses
False memories
A person remembers an event, a fragment or a detail that did not actually happen.
They can be formed independently or under the influence of methods of memory recovery therapy (Recovered-memory therapy or RMT), such as regressive hypnosis, guided visualization, drug therapy for memory recovery, etc .In this case, there is an effect called imagination inflation.
Investigation
About this case in 1975, the film "The UFO Incident"was made.
In addition, this case was used as a plot basis for one of the episodes of the TV series "Project Blue Book".
