A huge snowman known as the "Big Grey Man" has been spotted several times in the Cairngorms in Scotland, but it could be a rare atmospheric anomaly.
The Cairngorms in Scotland is no place for a large creature, but mysterious reports of a tall beast with pointed ears were received at the beginning of the last century.
It is said that a large gray man was seen hiding in the fog eight times between 1891 and 1943 with eerie descriptions ranging from a 20-foot (6 m) broad-shouldered humanoid to a gray figure standing half his height with claws instead of fingers.
Unexplained strange sounds of cracking, screeching and even heavy footsteps were also noted in the mountains.
Finally, in December 1952, obvious photographic evidence of giant footprints in the snow added weight to the scary claims.
The author of the book "Beasts of the World" Andy McGrath studied the reports of experienced walkers and climbers, who, as he suggests, could have been subjected to a strange phenomenon.
Andy explained that what is known as the Broken ghost effect could have created observations of a large gray man. The author said:
"According to some skeptics, an ordinary atmospheric anomaly called the Broken ghost effect is responsible for the eyewitness accounts, and not a flesh-and-blood monster."
