Yesterday Atwater, California, Richard Sears captured the perfect storm two phenomena together — the rainbow and the lightning.
"A rapidly developing storm cell is said about a wild thunderstorm. As soon as the setting sun broke through the clouds in the West, a rainbow appeared, and in a few minutes through it struck an electric discharge. I was lucky to catch them both. What a spectacular show!" — said the photographer.
Peace rainbow warrior lightning this neighborhood may seem strange, however, these atmospheric phenomena have a common origin. Raindrops create a rainbow reflecting the sun's rays and refracting them into its component colors. And rain drops can cause lightning. The frozen drops in convective storm clouds collide and RUB against each other, creating electric charges, much like wool socks, if you RUB them on the carpet. When the charge builds up enough, the sky pierces the winding flash.
