Have you ever seen a red rainbow? Such a delicate optical phenomenon appeared to the eyes of the residents of St. Petersburg tonight: the sunset sky after the rain was decorated with a rainbow, as if "painted" in shades of red.

How is this possible?

At dawn and sunset, the sun's rays have to pass through a thicker layer of the Earth's atmosphere than during the day. Red (long) light waves scatter less than others as they pass through the atmosphere, so the Sun looks red at dawn or sunset.

Rainbows are formed when rays of light pass through a multitude of water droplets floating in the air, are reflected and refracted in them.

When mainly red rays remain at dawn or sunset, then the rainbows also turn red.

It looks unusual, doesn't it?
