Rainbow clouds are one of the most impressive optical phenomena that can be seen in the firmament. These are delicate, pastel clouds colored in spectral colors that appear near the Sun. But do not think that rainbow clouds are something incredibly rare and almost impossible to observe. In fact, if you pay attention to the sky around you, then perhaps you will be able to see this phenomenon.
Rainbow clouds occur due to the diffraction of light on supercooled water droplets in clouds. Water droplets act as lenses, decomposing light into spectral colors and creating circles of different shades around the Sun. Sometimes these circles can be very bright and saturated, and sometimes pale and barely noticeable.
It is best to watch rainbow clouds with dark glasses so as not to damage your eyes. The bright light of the Sun can be very dangerous for vision, so you should not risk looking at the sky without protection. If the Sun is hidden behind other clouds or mountains, then rainbow clouds can be seen without dark glasses.
Although rainbow clouds are not full–fledged crowns, they are still one of the most impressive optical phenomena in the firmament. If you haven't seen this phenomenon yet, be sure to look at the sky around you and maybe you will be able to see this amazing sight.
