The mysterious lagoon of Santa Maria del Oro, located in the western Mexican state of Nayarit, turned brownish-red overnight, surprising locals, reports Strange Sounds.
The Santa Maria del Oro Lagoon, which is almost 2.25 km long and 1.2 km wide, is located inside a crater formed by a meteorite impact thousands of years ago.
Crater Lake, also known as the "Enchanted Lagoon", contains fresh water. The color of the water constantly changes from blue to bright green, but this time the lagoon has become brownish-red.
According to scientists, the color change is natural and is associated with lower temperatures this year. Colder and denser water, which is usually found at the bottom of the lake, rises to the surface of the lake, changing its color.
Experts note that there is no pollution or emissions of toxic substances. But water samples were still sent for testing to determine whether this brownish-red water contains any pathogens or dangerous microorganisms.
