Stargazers last night saw an unusual sight - a fireball slowly flew across the night sky. Luminous band looked like a meteorite but experts say that the object was moving too slow and, most likely, it was space debris that burned up in reentry (see video below).
It has been suggested that it could be part of the out-of-control space station "Tiangong-1" that the Chinese are planning to enter in the atmosphere up to the end of 1917. Others believe that it could be a tiny research satellite known as a CubeSat, which launched to the ISS in 2015.
"We are confident that this is space debris, as it moved too slowly for a meteorite," said Richard Kacerek, the expert from the United Kingdom.
Users of social networks called this space debris parts of a space station, lost control and fallen to the Ground. However, Richard Kacerek assured that this is unlikely.
"Some suggest that it could be CubeSat Flock 2B-2", - he said.
A family of 12 satellites of Flock 2B, having a surveillance camera, was launched from ISS in 2015. The website SeeSat-L, describing the motion of the satellites, analyzed the direction of the wreckage and confirmed that it could really be one of the satellites of Flock 2B.
"Based on initial analysis, appears to be it's FLOCK 2B-2" - said on the website .
A scientist from the space center at the University of Surrey, England, said that, of course, is the burning space debris.
"There are only a few objects in orbit that are sufficiently large, which could fall to the Ground, and they are monitored," he said.
Module space station "Tiangong-1" launched in 2011, will be launched from orbit in the second half of 2017, but nobody knows where he falls on the Ground. It is expected to burn up in the atmosphere or fall into the ocean.
