In November 2018, a fantastic picture was published. It depicted a crashed flying saucer. The picture was taken by NASA and, as it turned out, it has an amazing history. The photo was posted on the Astronomy Picture of the Day website. It was called a landmark reminder of the failures in the history of space flight. The description says that the UFO made an emergency landing in the area of the Utah desert.

This happened after it was detected by radar and military helicopters went in pursuit of the saucer. The aircraft was half buried in the desert sand. But it wasn't a UFO, it was just a capsule of the Genesis spacecraft.

According to the calculations of the engineers, it should not have expected such a hard landing. The mission of this device began on August 8, 2001. Genesis was an ambitious attempt by the space agency to send a spacecraft into the solar wind. The purpose of the flight was to collect samples that were supposed to be on the Ground, in the laboratory. The researchers hoped to collect data on the composition of the charged particles that the Sun's corona emits.

In this way, they planned to determine the composition of the star and get as much information as possible about the elements that formed the planets of the Solar system. For the delivery of samples, the ship was equipped with a special capsule.

It contained a special canister where the solar wind samples were placed. The rover collected them for two years in the orbit of Lagrange point 1. This place is considered unique, because it is here that the gravity of the Earth and the Sun have an absolute balance.

Project scientist Amy Yurevich noted that all the materials collected in the capsule had increased strength and could be perfectly preserved until landing on Earth. But the capsule with the precious cargo crashed into the desert at an estimated speed of 310 kilometers per hour.

The landing scenario of the capsule was different: at 127 seconds, a special parachute was supposed to open to stabilize the descent. But that didn't happen. A thorough investigation was carried out, during which an error was discovered in the set of sensors. The capsule was still recovered and the mission was not considered a failure.
